My fellow Americans,

I have talked to and heard from so many of you, and I am inspired by your resilience, compassion and drive to make important changes in this nation. These qualities don’t simply appear, rather, they are shaped by our experiences and background. America has reached an unhealthy level of division among our citizens, whether it is rich vs poor, black vs white, or old vs young. The Republican Party has further polarized these groups, creating a country which opposes the vision we have for our children. As Americans, we must combat these attempts to further divide our country and work to bring back our most important quality as a nation, unity. Our country was built on unity and our successes can be traced back to it, just as our biggest struggles can be traced back to a lack of it. The statement, “strength in numbers,” will always hold true, especially for a country as powerful and prosperous as the United States of America. Republicans will try to convince you that the Democratic Party hates America and wishes to burn it down. These are lies attempting to further divide our country even more. Yes, our country is one to be proud of, but we are far from perfect.. Why should we accept complacency, instead of striving for greatness? The country needs a voice who will speak up for the little guy, while also creating an environment and society which all citizens can be proud of. I will be this voice and will serve to create a better country for all. I pledge to erase the inequalities of our broken system, as well as promoting cooperation in all aspects of life. We cannot hope to restore our greatness, while also dismissing the opinions of half of our people. Throughout my life I have gained the experience and knowledge necessary to help America reclaim its global leader title. I intend to put this knowledge to full use and will help our country reach the level of greatness that we all know it is capable of. I, Lauren Davis, announce my candidacy for the Presidency of the United States and with this image of a unified America, I begin this campaign.
